Management Approach

I. Policy
The Board set directions and policies concerning social responsibilities, while having Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) strategic campaigns included in IRPC’s five-year strategy. An emphasis is placed on value co-creation between IRPC and stakeholders, which is respected as guidelines for the management and staff as well as subsidiaries in doing their CSR work. The guidelines can be summarized as follows:
  • Basing business conduct on corporate governance with a focus on integrity, fairness, transparency, and accountability, taking into account the benefit for stakeholders as well as fair treatment for all stakeholders.
  • Conducting the business with fairness, avoiding any action that may trigger conflicts of interest, while promoting free trade without infringement on intellectual property or copyright. IRPC promotes anti-corruption and anti-graft by establishing an efficient whistleblowing process together with anti-corruption risk assessment, under which risks from doing CSR projects are included.
  • Respecting the internationally accepted human rights principle, the foundation for human resource development as well as treatment for customers and business partners.
  • Taking responsibilities for consumers through control, development, and improvement of safety standards of products and services. IRPC provides accurate and sufficient information for consumers. However, it keeps consumers’ data confidential, except with prior permission from the consumer to disclose such information.
  • Engaging in social and community development. Examinations, corrections, and improvements are encouraged to prevent the business or projects from producing negative impacts, directly or indirectly, on communities and society. Support is also given to projects or activities intended for the benefit of society or the environment by making use of skills, knowledge, and resources within the organization.
  • Taking care of the environment through appropriate environmental management with regular monitoring and assessment. Promotion is given to efficient use of resources with standard energy-saving method, reuse of resources, development of products and services without environmental impacts but are safe for use. Emergency response is prepared for dealing with potential environmental problems.
  • Doing an innovative business that can not only provide benefit, while raising competitiveness and value for IRPC, but can also benefit target groups, such as innovation in plastic products with anti-bacterial agents, which are good for consumers’ hygiene.
  • Making social and environmental reports under internationally accepted formats, and disclosing information regarding society and the environment to all stakeholders. IRPC assigns leaders of all business groups to give cooperation and encourage staff to drive this policy to success.
II. Management System/Process
Guided by CSR Strategy, IRPC’s Corporate citizenship and philanthropic activities focuses on various matters, for example, local economy development, health and safety of the community. All these matters have been thoroughly analysed and defined as materiality for IRPC, which need to be addressed. Each matter is prioritized based on the importance and urgency, which would be used as guidance for corporate citizenship and philanthropic activities. The policy is introduced to promote the concept of CSR as a guideline for the organization and subsidiaries.

Engaging in community and society development
IRPC new vision to be a leading Eco Industrial Company has led to a process development according to Eco Industrial Concept.

Corporate citizenship and philanthropic activities are guided by the CSR strategy, which focuses on various matters, for example, local economy development, health and safety of the community. All these matters have been thoroughly analyzed and defined as materiality for IRPC, which need to be addressed. Each matter is prioritized based on the importance and urgency, which would be used as guidance for corporate citizenship and philanthropic activities. IRPC categorizes CSR programs into 3 themes; include building sustainable environment, improving education and strengthening community. IRPC develops its CSR initiatives in alignment with UN Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs) and Business Drivers in order to leverage the strength of its business and society.

In 2018, our main CSR priorities are Health and Safety from IRPC Product, Education and Life Quality Improvement. Please find the details of each priority and its alignment with SDGs and Business Drivers as below:

Philanthropic programs for society Business Drivers : IRPC developed philanthropic programs that impact the overall society to improved relationships with our suppliers, business partners, and other stakeholders. As IRPC aims to initiate strong and broad impact, we identified needs of Thai’s society to capture the most public’s interest through our philanthropic activities. The key needs of Thai’s society are better health quality, well-being, and environment.

Business Benefit KPIs - Prostheses Project: IRPC minimizes cost of innovation state gate to launch medical grade plastic product (POLIMAXX) that aligns to company's business strategy for emerging into the high value-added (HVA) plastic pellets market.
- Plastic Rights Project and Lam Sai Yong Project: IRPC gains benefit by increasing knowledge of expertise of employees who participate in these programs. Twenty five IRPC's employees who participated in Lam Sai Yong project have gained knowledge and technical skills on engineering design and flood management. In 2018, approximately 150 IRPC's employees who joined in Plastic Rights project have gained awareness of their roles to help the company's to reduce the climate impact to the environment.

Social / Environmental Benefit KPIs - Prosthesis project: IRPC has helped the foundation to produce 21,579 prosthetic legs. The total number of patients that received prosthetic legs is 11,487 patients.
- Lam Sai Yong Model Project: IRPC has project has helped to supply 60,000 cubic meters to 470 households in 6 villages in Srisaket Province.
- For Plastic Rights project: IRPC has helped to reduce 5.643 tons CO2 equivalent throughout the project activities.
Philanthropic programs for education
Business Drivers : As IRPC is well known for one the most innovative integrated petrochemical company in Thailand, the key business driver for education projects through philanthropic program is to enhance company’s corporate citizenship on being a pioneer company that supports culture of innovation, imaginative thinking, and development of essential academic knowledge to students. IRPC values the importance of education and strives to promote development of education system to build human resource for society and create quality individuals for the country by supporting education projects.

- IRPC Technological College (IRPCT) Project
Business Benefit KPIs - KVIS&VISTEC Project: IRPC have gained open innovation through collaboration education projects that IRPC supports such De Novo Research and Development Program Examples of open innovation is Lithium Batteries. In addition, through these support in 2018, 27 graduated students from KVIS&VISTEC has joined IRPC workforce. - IRPCT Project: IRPCT plans to build a state-of-the-art training center that will be opened in 2020. This center will be used as a public education center and also use as a training center for IRPC and PTT Group operators. In which, IRPC will gain business benefit by increasing the opportunities to attract talents and using the facility for employees skill development.

Social Benefit KPIs - KVIS&VISTEC Project: IRPC supports students in secondary school of 4th-6th year and masters and doctoral degrees by providing education to talented students in science and math. From the record data, with the support from IRPC more than 200 students graduate the institutes annually.

Business Benefit KPIs Through intensive supports that responded to needs of people living in the communities, IRPC enhanced our positive reputation and drive business to operate sustainability with local communities. These positive attitude from communities can be quantified by measuring community satisfaction score. In FY 2018 for the community satisfaction score that IRPC received from surrounding communities was 88.50%, which is equivalent to highly satisfy level.

Social / Environmental Benefit KPIs - Pan Nam Jai Clinic project: IRPC provided medical helps to 4,756 patients who live in the communities around our operating plants.
- For monitoring the wellness of people project: IRPC have helped 10,398 household in monitoring air quality and improve their wellness
- For community health promotion fund for communities surrounding IRPC Eco Industrial Zone project: IRPC has sponsored 41 projected that support health and wellbeing of locals.
- Drinking water for communities project: IRPC provided 28,380 scholarships to 305 local students and education classes for 138 senior citizens.
